Industrial Landscape Photography

Saturday 06 June
North Docks - 10am - 2 Hours

Valentina Passerini
We will be starting with an overview of landscape photography technique, how to decide what to take a picture of and how to compose shots, we will then move into settings and more technical challenges to get an idea of when the camera behaves best for landscapes.

You can use buildings and other man-made structures compositionally in the same way other landscape photographers use trees and rolling hills. Wind farms, harbours, cement works, power stations, quarries, pylons and building sites are just a few of the industrial landscapes you can photograph. The Liverpool docks are the perfect setting for this kind of photography meetup.

I attended the Wigan Photography Group session at Haigh Hall on Sunday, hosted by John Nispeling, and it was a brilliant experience from start to finish. The setting itself was perfect, offering plenty of variety for both beginners and more experienced photographers. John was incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about photography. He explained techniques clearly and made sure everyone felt comfortable, regardless of their skill level. What stood out most was how hands-on the session was?there was always guidance available, but also plenty of freedom to explore and be creative. The group atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, which made it easy to ask questions, share ideas, and learn from others. I came away not only with some great shots but also with a better understanding of composition and how to make the most of natural light. I?d highly recommend this to anyone looking to improve their photography skills or simply enjoy a creative morning in a fantastic location. I?ll definitely be attending more sessions in the future.
